Week 3
Weekly Overview:
This week I went to two UE4 workshops hosted by Chris Murphy. I finished off modelling my robot for my short animation, and I began work on my cross discipline project.
What have I made this week?
Rapid Production project:
For my rapid production project this week, I made an animatic which ill be basing my shots and timing around. I used Photoshop to redraw and add some shots to my storyboard which I then took into After Effects and Premiere to put together. I also finished modelling the rest of the parts needed for my robot, which I then put together to finish the look of my robot. I also modelled a couple more tools to go on my work bench.
This week I also started setting up my environment in UE4 for my robot.

Specialisation:
I didn’t end up doing much this week for my specialisation, however I did start to add some blueprints into my environment. I added a day/night cycle and a light that automatically turns on and off depending on what time of day it is. This will be useful for when I add a city into my environment; having it all light up during night.
With this blueprint you can also change the time each cycle lasts (in minutes).
Cross Discipline:
This week I started work on my cross discipline project with my friend who is doing programming. We are going to be making a small project in UE4 that explores different ways to make cool stuff. Its going to be a series of simulation rooms to show off small environments and game modes within the engine.
So far, we’ve been able to make a plant ‘spawn’ out of the ground when the player walks near it. Using a material we made a cool effect for the plant.

What have I learned?
Chris Murphy:
This week, thanks to the help of two UE4 workshops I went to, I’ve learnt a lot more about the UE4 engine itself and a bit more about tech art in UE4.
I learnt about using Flow Maps and how to incorporate them into rivers and lakes.
I also learnt a bit more about advanced Shaders and how the technical side comes into making them
In the workshop, Chris made a death laser that replaced a grass texture on the environment with a lava texture which was controlled by the user.
